Welcome!

This is a study about creating product names for non-existing products with the help of Gemini. The aim is to find out how native speakers of English form new words with the help of an artificial intelligence.

The study is part of my doctoral thesis in the field of English linguistics at the University of Trier, supervised by Prof. Dr. Arndt-Lappe.

The experiment involves creating five different product names based on given descriptions of non-existing products. You will be asked to enter five different product names in the given text boxes. How long this experiment takes is up to you, depending on how much time you are willing to spend on the creation of those names.

In order to participate in the experiment, you need to create an account for Google or login with an already existing Google-account.

Terms of Condition
You can refuse to take part in the experiment without giving a reason and can stop participating at any time during the experiment. If you decide to withdraw after having completed the experiment, you can write to s2vadiek@uni-trier.de. Your data can be excluded from the study at any time but will only be possible before data collection has been completed.

If you agree to participate, you will be asked to provide some personal information, namely your age, gender, educational background and your profession. Each data file will be assigned an anonymous ID, and your name will not be linked to the data files. Personal identifiable information will be kept separately from the data.

In addition to your personal information, you will also be asked to share your chat protocol with Gemini. The chat protocol is anonymised automatically, hence no personal information can be retrieved. Your approach to the task will be compared to the approach of other participants to get a better understanding of how people interact with the AI and to gain an insight into the word creation process.

This study also has a second part in form of an interview. If you'd like to participate in the interview, you are required to enter your email address and a personal code at the end of the first experiment.

The data obtained from the experiment (including the chat protocol) will be analysed statistically and compared to each other within the context of my doctoral thesis. They may also be used for conference presentations or publications in scientific journals and books.
