Partially hide a text

Sometimes you need longer explanations in an online questionnaire. Especially on mobile devices with a narrow screen, texts take up a lot of space (Questionnaire for Smartphones). You can display only the first few lines of a text and hide the rest.

Partially hidden text

Note: This method works with HTML code. You can use it in questions, explanations, item texts and text modules with representation „HTML code“, but not in texts with representation „plain text“ or „formatted text“.

Tip: Use the Accordion function if you have several text sections and want to display only their headings at first.

Put the text or section you want to show only partially in a <div> with the CSS class s2jsMoreBox. SoSci Survey will then take care of hiding the text until respondents click on it or the plus (+) symbol.

<div class="s2jsMoreBox">

By default, the height is limited to 160 pixels. You can use the CSS property min-height to set a different height that will be displayed initially.

<div class="s2jsMoreBox" style="min-height: 80px">
